Green from above

According to the roofer at greenroofs101.com , green covered roofs last longer than cleaned roofs. Moss for example, protects a roof from the sun's radiation to lose the ability to expand or contract.

Green roofs save roofs from cracking, curling or becoming brittle from the sun's radiant heat. The roofing contractor at Greenroofs101, has been a roofer for decades and through his experience he discovered this fact.

Here's the close up of the rooftop garden! See? You can find a place to grow food anywhere!

      Hi Rai,

Well you can check out other sites that talk about green roofs and how to start them. There is also information on green roofs for commercial buildings.

Here are a few good sites regarding the same:

      http://www.epa.gov/hiri/strategies/greenroofs.html

Wow! Those pictures are really inspiring. Did you take all of them? I've seen a couple green roofs but they were not nearly as exciting as some of the ones you have pictured here.

My husband and I dream of building a dream green home in the future and I think its going to have to have a green roof now.

I love the goats on the roof. We're hoping to have goats too!

      Hi June,

I did not take all of those pictures.  Some came from the roofer's website and the site that talks about the roofer. It is his roof on the post and his garden.

Goats! We also want goats when we finally purchase our farm! We are very interested in Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats. They are very small and they produce a lot of milk.

We also dream of our green home but on other soil down central America way to Costa Rica. We are very interested in the central valley area in the mountains.

Thanks for the comment! Stop by again for more green ideas and inspirations!

      Green luck!

Green roofing has always made sense to me. Especially with the food crisis, this is a great way to increase fresh food for the population. As a New Yorker, I would love to see much, much more greenery, especially in the public housing areas. Just think what great teaching tools these mini ecosystems would make! Oh, and I would love to see some koi pools and miniwaterfalls included in the designs....

Hi HG! Thanks for the comments and your input on green roofs! Have you started yours? If you live in an apartment, why not get the neighbors to join you? It's a great way to have a common positive goal with your neighbors and to bond with them over the garden. In addition, it will nourish all of you to continue to grow together!

      Keep growing!
